Syllabus. This is my second year teaching in Virginia, I am originally from Indiana and moved here two years ago. Though I am relatively new to teaching, I have held a variety of jobs ranging from a lumberjack to a butcher in a meat shop which gives me a bunch of life experience. In my classroom, I focus on relationships with students and establishing mutual respect for one another. I hope it will be a successful year with your student, feel free to contact me with any questions you have at [email protected]

Students will make connections between the past and the present as they study United States history in chronological order and learn about change and repetition in United States history. Students will also use primary and secondary sources to evaluate differing perspectives of the events and people that shaped United States history. What we discover about the history of the United States will give us a better understanding of human societies and help us learn from past mistakes and accomplishments.

Expectations1. Be on time, on task, and ready to do your best in the classroom
2. Respect yourself, your classmates, and your teacher. Above all else, strive to be kind. 3. Follow directions, listen intently and ask questions if needed 4. Respect the area around you and keep it clean 5. Remain in your seat unless given other directions and ask permission to leave the classroom |
Classroom ManagementI believe students should have more responsibility over their education and my classroom management plan models that. If a student chooses to disrupt the learning of others or not follow expectations, here is what they can expect:
Student will be given 2 verbal warnings then will be asked to move to a different seat. If the behavior persists then the student may be moved to another classroom for 5-10 minutes and the parent will be contacted. Further consequences include after-school detention In more severe cases, such as student action/behavior threatening the safety and learning process of entire class, I will send the student directly to the Office and the parent/guardian will be contacted. |
Grade BreakdownGrades in my class are more of a reflection of the student's effort instead of the intelligence. If a student has a low grade, they are most likely not following expectations and/or doing their work. The grade scale is as follows:
Tests (30% of grade). Quizzes/Bellwork (30% of grade) Projects (30% of grade) Homework (10% of grade) *Bellwork is important as it can help you make up poor test and project scores |
